In Africa, FAITH is not just a belief system, it is a way of life. It shapes how we see the world, how we find hope, and how we face life’s hardest battles. When sickness comes, especially something as daunting as cancer, many turn to prayer, fasting, and prophecy for healing. And rightly so, faith has the power to strengthen, comfort, and sustain.
But faith, on its own, is not a substitute for action.
As we mark Pink October, the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, it’s important to have an honest conversation about how we approach health, healing, and wellness. Too many lives are lost because people delay medical check-ups, relying on prophecies or “divine interventions.” While prayer offers peace to the soul, medicine offers help to the body. We need both. Faith should inspire us to act, not excuse us from action.

The Reality We Must Face
Across communities, there are countless stories of women and men who noticed a lump or unusual change in their body but chose to “pray it away” or “speak healing into existence.” By the time they sought medical attention, the disease had advanced. This pattern reflects a painful truth: Our FAITH sometimes becomes the reason we ignore early signs, when it should be the strength that pushes us to seek help! As Africans, our spirituality is our pride. But true faith does not deny science; it complements it. Seeking medical care is not a lack of belief; it is wisdom. God works through doctors, nurses, and the knowledge that helps save lives.
Wellness at Work: A Shared Responsibility
Beyond personal health, workplaces have a crucial role to play. Too often, employees carry silent struggles; stress, burnout, or undiagnosed health conditions because wellness isn’t prioritized at work. Creating a healthy work culture means providing opportunities for regular screenings, encouraging open conversations about mental and physical health, and building an environment where employees feel supported; body, mind, and spirit.
Workplaces that care are workplaces that thrive.
SBP Africa’s Stand: Building a World of Work That Works for All
At SBP Africa, we believe wellness goes beyond individual choices; it’s about systems, leadership, and culture. Our mission is to promote a world of work that works for all, where employees can flourish because their well-being matters. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we encourage organizations to integrate wellness programs not just as corporate gestures, but as strategic commitments to people. From health awareness drives to mental health initiatives, every effort counts in creating safer, healthier, and more compassionate workplaces.

Faith and Science Can Coexist
This Pink October, let’s remember: prayer and medicine are not rivals; they are partners. One strengthens the soul; the other restores the body. One gives us hope; the other gives us help.
Let faith move us to act.
Let knowledge guide our decisions.
Let compassion define our workplaces.
And together, let’s build a world where every woman, every man, and every worker has both the faith to believe and the courage to check for health, for hope, and for life.

Great one 👌
This piece of work needs to be published on the front page of every newspaper in Africa throughout this month. The subject couldn’t be highlighted more.
Great work.😊
A good read!
Beautiful 😍
Great piece , Anita👏🏾
Truly, faith predates action and as humans we need to take all matters concerning our health very seriously.
We pray for discernment daily.
Great piece
It is very funny yet a matter of concern, as a lot of see pastors, prophets and deacons as the only people called by God. Meanwhile all of us cannot be pastors, it very important that we understand that God calls everyone to play a specific role in this world irrespective of their legal position or role. God works through the pastor, the doctor, the nurse, the driver who drives the ambulance or even the taxi. We have to trust that God works through everyone. If the teacher didn’t teach the bible writers how to read and write, maybe we wouldn’t have known about Christianity.
Beautifully written and deeply true. Faith and medicine are not enemies, they work hand in hand. Trusting God also means using the wisdom and resources He’s provided through doctors and science. A powerful reminder this Pink October. 💗
